This tutorial will help you to take screenshot on Ubuntu 24.04 "Noble Numbat". We will do it using built-in screenshot feature. You can take whole desktop, a window, a free selection, as well as screencast (video recording) with or without showing mouse cursor. Take Whole Desktop Screenshot

PrintScreen + Select Screen Option (middle) + Enter

 


(Picture: showing Ubuntu screenshot options | This is useful if you want to display a screen completely including all running apps and tools)


Take A Window Screenshot

PrintScreen + Select Window Option (right) + Enter

 


(Picture: showing Ubuntu screenshot options with "Window" selected | This is useful if you want to take only one application or game currently running without anything else)

 

Take A Free Region Screenshot

PrintScreen + Click Selection Option (left) + Make A Selection with Mouse + Enter

Take A Screencast (Video Recording)

PrintScreen + Select Camera Option (left) + Enter

Take Screenshot Showing Mouse Cursor

PrintScreen + Select Pointer Option (right) + Enter

Location of PrintScreen Key

The PrintScreen button is located on the top area usually near Scroll Lock button of a regular keyboard. On some specific keyboard like found on ThinkPads, PrintScreen button is located on the bottom area between Alt and Ctrl buttons. See picture below for example. It is located right after F12 key.
