Preparations
- Download Trisquel. Choose 32 bit edition if your computer is sold before 2011, or choose 64 bit instead if your computer either has 4GB RAM or comes with Windows 10.
- Create Trisquel bootable USB flash drive, a medium to install the OS into your computer, by writing the ISO file into it. For this purpose, you can use Unetbootin program on Windows and Mac, or GNOME Disk Utility which is preinstalled built-in on most GNU/Linux.
- Create 3 hard disk partitions by size and filesystem respectively, 500MB FAT32 and 1GB linux-swap and >=20GB EXT4 which will be EFI, SWAP, and ROOT partitions respectively. For this purpose you can use GParted Partition Editor program which is preinstalled built-in on Trisquel itself and almost all other GNU/Linux distros.
- If you plan a dualboot, backup your important data from Windows partitions to external storage correctly.
- If you plan USB flash drive instead of hard disk drive installation, I recommend you to use EXT2 instead of EXT4 filesystem.
- For complete beginners, ask person with computer knowledge near you to guide you while practicing this tutorial and doing mentioned backup.
