Do you like to create some video tutorials? Are you using GNOME 3? Then just use EasyScreenCast extension to record the screen and your voice, into a video by just clicking a button in the top panel. Sounds interesting? Let we show you how here.
1. Install EasyScreenCast
Follow this instruction to install a GNOME Shell extension. Once installed,
you will find the EasyScreenCast icon on your top panel in GNOME Shell.
2. Preparing
There are some settings to prepare in EasyScreenCast:
(1) Video format:
To set video format up, click its white icon on top panel > Settings > change the File container option.
There are some video format choices from WebM (VP8), WebM (VP9), MP4 (x264), MKV (x264), and OGG (Theora). For my hardware (Intel Celeron 2 GB) I get best result if I use WebM VP8.
(2) Sound source:
I plug my microphone in in my 3.5 mm port and EasyScreenCast shows it as analog-input-mic. If you have no external microphone, just use the internal microphone by the same name analog-input-mic. Tip: you may test the sound recording first by using Sound Recorder application (it is available via Software Center).
(3) Resolution size:
To change the video resolution size, click its white icon on top panel > Settings > File > change the File resolution option. EasyScreenCast has some resolution options: SD (480p 768x480), HD (720p 1280x720), Full HD 1920x1080, and Ultra HD (2160p 3840x2160).
(4) Screen area:
You may select the screen area you want to record: one whole desktop, one selected window, all desktops, or particularly selected area. You choose it from click its white icon on top panel > Record a {your_selection}. For the most cases, you need only Record a selected monitor.
(5) Delay
You may set delay time before taking the screencast on from click its white icon on the top panel > Delay > drag the slider to adjust the seconds value. You may set from 1 until 100 seconds delay time.
3. Start Recording
(1) After doing all preparational settings, click the icon on the top panel > click Start Recording.
(2) According to your delay number setting, it will wait you to prepare e.g. some windows you need to display.
(3) The white icon will turn into red while the recording session is started. It is the time to do your desktop activities.
(4) To stop the recording, click the red icon > click Stop Recording.
(5) It will process the recording, encoding the data into video file in your Videos directory in your $HOME.
4. The Result
By default, you will find the video file result in your Videos directory. Here is my GNOME Videos playing my .ogg video screencast.
